Encapsulate and mark asbestos cement pipe (APC) fragments in rehabilitation projects.
EncapsulAC® is a proprietary dry-bagged powder which, when blended with water, produces a vibrant blue fluid. This environmentally designed pumpable fluid coagulates and covers ACP fragments and fibres with a dyed gel holding them in a coagulated mass. Its bentonite base seals the terraform and can withstand ground water washout. The EncapsulAC® Coagula-Tracer Fluid can be utilized with all conventional Trenchless Technologies as well as Open-cut ACP rehabilitations.
EncapsulAC® is specially designed for ACP rehabilitation. ACP is found throughout most water main and wastewater systems. Most ACP systems have exceeded their useful life putting them at high risk for leaks due to degradation. Using EncapsulAC® for ACP rehabilitation eliminates the need to remove ACP pipe and simultaneously improves safety by marking the presence of ACP fragments during the installation of replacement pipe and future repair and maintenance activities.
EncapsulAC® enables pipe owners to continue utilizing low cost infrastructure rehabilitation methods such as Pipe-Fracturing (aka; Pipe-Bursting), Pipe-Splitting, and Back-Reaming. Even if the open-cut removal method is preferred, the material controls the release of asbestos fibres when using any of these processes. The vibrant blue Coagula-Fluid creates an easily identifiable indicator that the material surrounding the new pipe may contain asbestos fibres. EncapsulAC® Coagula-Tracer Fluid creates a safer environment for its users. Additional traceability can be obtained using the UV marker blend (EncapsulAC-UV). EncapsulAC® is a 100% USA made product.
This document covers common pipe-bursting (PB) procedures utilizing a coagulation fluid known as EncapsulAC® (EAC) during asbestos cement pipe (ACP) replacement.
